As experts in spatial planning and ergonomics, we make the most of the space that you have - and even find more than you thought you had. We can usually find space by either recycling unnecessary corridors inside or by looking at the capacity of the garden for absorbing an extension. We also look at how the kitchen functions in the rest of the house.
In addition to in-house architects at Johnny Grey Studios, we also work through select architectural partners who can handle any element of your project from a simple extension to an entire house.
Design can be simultaneously a functional piece of furniture and a work of art. Furniture can be thought of as sculpture while painters can add atmosphere, texture and colour to a space. Our method is to create a collection of furniture and visual elements that work together as a serenade of objects.
Simple cabinets can provide a backdrop to richer pieces, while antiques might be placed between storage cupboards. Or you might see an island more like a sculpture than a conventional rectangular box. We believe this perspective incorporates what is missing from many new kitchens: a relaxed sense of fun, quirky appeal with implicit functionality.
Thoughtful design is vital for highly used spaces. Because a proper sense of flow allows everyone to feel there is space to move about freely and reach whatever they need, we avoid sharp corners on central islands, peninsulas and other objects that sit or jut into the centre of the room.
The curves you see in our furniture are generated from ergonomics initially and are then turned into beautiful shapes that appeal to the eye.
Making a kitchen feel homey and reflect its owner is an art we think is vital to a successful design. In addition to working directly for clients, we collaborate with their own professional decorators and interior designers. Capturing mood is a subtle skill. We keep architectural features where possible, incorporating antiques, objects d'art and paintings into the design.
Choosing opposing or complimentary textures, styles and shapes on different items of furniture, as well as utilising hand painted colours, gives us flexibility to enhance the atmosphere. We have a roster of artists available to suit the tastes of different clients and our design partners. Lighting control systems assist with mood settings in the evening.
